Integrated modelling of sea-state forecasts for safe navigation and operational management in ports: Application in the Mediterranean Sea

In this paper we present recent evolvements of three robust numerical models for the simulation evolution wave fields and hydrodynamic circulation in gulfs coastal areas with large harbours significant urban port facilities. The are integrated into a single software suite development decision support tool to provide reliable forecasts sea states prevailing at selected important ports worldwide. application modelling platform is designed approaching procedures vessels it based on co-operating, high-resolution, (ocean wave) that derive input data boundary conditions from global scale or regional, open weather forecasts. implementation short-term includes development, validation, coupling, operational of: i) High Resolution Storm Surge (HiReSS) model level variations; ii) 3rd generation spectral called TELEMAC-based Operational Model Addressing Wave Action Computation (TOMAWAC) irregular propagation offshore areas; iii) high resolution phase-resolving (WAVE-L) basins, hyperbolic mild-slope equations. This innovative product, port-related end-users, will improve navigation safety ports, optimize berth occupancy, pilotage operations, mooring towage procedures, may facilitate layout upgrade design. Hereby, pilot forecast implementations presented concerning Mediterranean Sea eight it.
